The Post Office Angling Society (Southend) was formed in the early 1970's and was initially the brainchild of Dave Butt. Dave and a group of Post Office Telephone engineers (hence the name), each made an original £1 contribution to form a subsection to the Southend-on-sea Telephone Area Leisure Club concentrating on both coarse and sea fishing. After some time the two sections divided and the course section were able to acquire our current water, Lambourne Mead, Canewdon, Essex.
In 2005 the society was able to purchase a 4.5 acre parcel of land in Shopland Road, Sutton to develop our own 2 lake fishery at Beauchamps.
The Society has grown from small but sturdy roots to become a strong Family Club of over 200 members, with Dave Butt being an honorary member, given in thanks for his many years of service to the society.
Even though now in later life Dave Butt still continues to fish his favourite peg.
