Apologies for the delay in keeping members up to date with our progress on the Post Office Angling Society and Coarse 86 Angling Club amalgamation. We are very pleased to be able to let you know that the ballot went in favour of the amalgamation by a very healthy majority from both clubs and the new club will be POAS and C86 trading as our new club name Essex Coarse Angling Society (ECAS), the new committee will consist of all of the committee members from both of the original clubs.
We are still crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s with the solicitors on the final contract, but virtually there. We have also just received confirmation that the new ECAS bank account has been opened and is ready for use, which was one of the main reasons for the delay in taking members subscriptions, but all ready to go now.
The new club will be fully operational from the 1st. April 2024 and members will be able to use all fisheries from that date.
We are currently working on a new ECAS website, but POAS and C86 will still be functional, until it has been completed and ready to go.
Please see attached the new membership renewal form, in the ECAS name, our Membership Secretary details are at the bottom of the form for postage renewals, also the account number and sort code are there for online payments.
Please keep ECAS details for future payments, and please make any cheques out to Essex Coarse Angling Society or ECAS.
Many Thanks for all of your tolerance and patience through this change over period and please do not hesitate in contacting us if you have any questions.

We have just taken delivery of 150 Dinkelsbuehl Carp also known as Dinks for short, they originate from Germany and are named after the town near where they were first bred all the Carp are either Mirror or Linear Mirror.
They are known for their very quick growth rates and can reach double figures in four summers easily, If in the correct environment with a plentiful food source these are some of the fastest growing strains of carp in the UK.
Many thanks to club members that have provided funds to our fish fund to make this happen, special thanks to our Secretary Mike Salmons for his donation for an extra 25 Carp.
We would love to see any photos of your catches or wildlife at our fisheries, you can send them using the contact form on this site.
Wednesday we had a delivery of 3 large boxes, sent by courier, containing F1 Carp Hybrids for our Beauchamp's fishery. 1 box to the small lake and 2 boxes for the main lake, which all arrived in fantastic condition. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.
These are a fast growing fish and will make a welcome addition to our stocks, you can catch F1 Carp up to 3lb now at Beauchamp's with a few bigger fish that have fallen to 6mm banded pellets.
We would love to see any photos of your catches or wildlife at our fisheries, you can send them using the contact form on this site.
Over the last few weeks we have been upgrading facilities for the wildlife around the lakes, one of our members Nick Robins (thank you Nick) has kindly made some bird boxes which we are currently installing we have also installed a Goose Hotel and a Duck Wigwam on one of the islands at Beauchamp's.
This year we hope to log the different types of Dragonflies and Damselflies around our waters if you spot any please try and take a photo and send it to us with a short description, we hope in the future to help out recording the different species with the British Dragonfly Society.
Every year we continue to upgrade and improve facilities across our waters this year we have installed a top of the range loo at our Lambourne fishery, the toilets at both sites are checked and cleaned on a regular basis, if you should notice any problems please let us know.
Toilets being installed and upgraded to a fresh flush system by water experts Paul Baker and Keith Lambird (thanks guys).
A delivery of 300 6"- 8" Bream and 200 6"- 8" Ide have been stocked into the main lake with 100 4"- 6" Crucian Carp into the small lake. A Big Thank You to all that have donated to the fish fund.
As part of the new stocking at Beauchamp's Mike Salmons has donated the funds for a small number of 2lbs Bream that have now been stocked into the small lake.
Due to the number of people attending our Sunday club matches we have decided to close the whole fishery on the days applicable, until 2 hours after the match has finished. This will apply to all Sunday matches going forward.
The club’s other fishery will be fully open as per usual, this will not apply to the fortnightly Tuesday matches.
This has become necessary largely due to COVID restrictions, the increased membership over the past 2 seasons, and the number of parked cars this creates on the day, which take up all the space available.
Please see the Match Fixture list for affected dates and venues:
Thank you for your understanding and tight lines.
Kind regards
POAS Committee
The boilies ban has been brought about by a minority of members introducing excessive amounts of baits, this created a situation where many club members have been angered by the amounts of bait and fishing methods used, therefore some members put forward a proposition for a boilie ban.
The minority of members creating this situation will be dealt with as a separate issue.
Therefore, to help explain why the ban was put through and explain the differences between pellets and boilies.
What are Boilies?
Boilies are a type of fishing bait made from boiled paste usually consisting of fishmeal, milk proteins, bird foods, semolina and soya flour, which are mixed with egg white as a binding agent. The mixture is then boiled to form hardish, usually round balls, which will last for a long time in the water. If left uneaten they can contaminate the water due to the fact that they take an enormous amount of time to break down.
What are coarse pellets?
A coarse pellet will usually be of low oil content and made of fishmeal, wheat, soya meal, corn product fish oil, vitamins and minerals. Low oil pellets are used on our fisheries for supplementary feeding and are recommended by fish farms and experts. High oil pellets including trout and halibut are not recommended.
The difference between boilies and pellets
The main difference with boilies is the inclusion of egg white as a binder and the boiling process preventing breakdown. Pellets are much softer than boilies in the water and will dissolve into a mush when soaked, making them effectively a compressed ground bait. Both pellets and boilies can be of any colour, shape or size, therefore the colour, shape or size do not affect whether they are classified as a pellet or boilies.
Conclusion
The vote for the boilies ban has been very close, so the committee have been assessing what the ban actually involves. As a committee we have no problem with boilies being used on the hook or hair rig. Our issue has always been with anglers feeding boilies in excessive amounts, therefore with due consideration it has been agreed that a single boilie only can be used as a hook or hair rig bait.
There will be no boilie loose feeding allowed, whether it is whole, ground or crushed.
There will be no boilie added to ground bait, whether it is whole, ground or crushed.
Stringers and PVA bags will be classed as loose feeding and are not allowed.
There will be no boilies allowed except as a single hook or hair rig bait.
Kind regards

We have received a couple of complaints from our Landlord and his neighbours, who live in the bungalows and house adjacent to our Lambourne Fishery. The first instance was of a car at 5.30 am, with the radio on very loudly and said he was waiting for his friend to turn up. The other incident was at 7.30, where the member was beeping his car horn because one of the residents was getting things from his garage, when challenged the member was rude.
With regards to waiting for a friend, all members have a key, so just get into the fishery quietly and wait for your friends in the car park area; radios are not allowed on our fisheries. If you have a guest ticket for a friend, you should turn up at the same time.
With regards to being challenged by a resident do not be rude, the person may be our landlord and as a worst-case scenario, he could terminate our lease. We have given instructions to our landlord that he may ask members to leave at once, if they are noisy or rude and we will deal with the transgressors, which could mean loss of membership or suspension.
One other thing that happens is cars not sticking to the 5mph speed limit, this speed limit extends from the main road to our fishery gates, the limit is there to keep noise levels down and because there are children.
We are now to introduce some patrols to make sure all members understand the rules and the rules will be reinforced if necessary.
The POAS Angling Club Committee.
A new punt is being built by master craftsman Geoffrey Bowman, it will allow us to carry out a lot more work around the lakes along with being a safer more stable platform then the boat we currently have, special thanks go to Ken Ives for his donation towards this project, If you have any spare time and would like to help out please contact the committee using the Contact Form
A delivery of 150 3 - 5 inch Barbel have been stocked at our Beauchamps fishery some into the small lake and the rest into the big, this has been made possible by a generous donation from our Secretary Mike Salmons, the new fish stock will be a great addition to the already present Barbel that can be caught up to 3lb.
The toilets are now open at Lambourne and Beauchamps, please use the hand sanitiser and toilet disinfectant before and after use, the toilets are checked and cleaned on a regular basis but should you notice any problems or the loo roll running low please drop us a line.
We have taken delivery of some fantastic new fish stock, which has been a closely guarded secret for some time because you wont find these fish in many waters and they can only be obtained from one breeder in the UK. Introducing the beautiful F1 Ghost Carp, each one unique with some even having the Ghost Carp skull pattern. These fish have been stocked into both waters at our Beauchamps fishery. Again we have another species to fish for, this has only been made possible by your donations into the fish fund A Big Thank You to all that have donated.
Once again illegal tackle has been found at our Lambourne fishery, also at our Beauchamps fishery.
Barbed hooks are banned as is any type of braid, even hook lengths. It should be noted that most shop bought carp rigs i.e Korum end tackle, have braid. Please take time to read our rules, failure to comply with our rules could lead to suspension from our club. Another thing to remember if you are in a swim alone and your partner or friend is fishing in another swim you both must be in possession of a landing net and if putting fish on the ground an unhooking mat must be used.
Over the coming season, tackle checks will again be in operation, every member is a club bailiff and can ask to check someone’s membership book or fishing tackle.
Please remember:
1) Barbless hooks only
2) 10lbs maximum B.S line
3) No braid of any kind, or lead cored leaders, this includes hook lengths
4) No fixed bolt rigs
Please respond in a civil manner if you are asked.
